Iran

The Pentagon is seeking $200 billion in funding for the conflict in Iran.

Iran struck energy infrastructure throughout the Middle East, including Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial city. Ras Laffan is home to the largest LNG export facility in the world. Extensive damage was done to the site. Qatar has asked Iran’s military attache and security officials to leave the country within 24 hours, declaring them persona non grata

President Trump declared that Israel will not attack Iran’s energy infrastructure and that the US did not know that Israel was going to attack the South Pars natural gas site. Axios is reporting, citing two Israeli senior officials, that the attack was done in coordination with the US. Trump is also threatening to “blow up” the South Pars site if Iranian retaliatory attacks on energy infrastructure continue.

The price of oil and other fossil fuels has surged since the attack on the Pars natural gas site and after Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Ras Laffan. The average price of gasoline in the US is now $3.88 a gallon – up 90 cents since the beginning of the war.

Rwanda-DRC

After talks in Washington, both countries agreed to take concrete steps to ease tensions as the peace process has stalled. Earlier this month, the US imposed sanctions on the Rwandan Defence Forces and four senior officials and blamed Rwanda for escalating the conflict.

South Korea

Panellists at a seminar, hosted by Rep. Yu Yong-weon of the People Power Party at the National Assembly in Seoul, outlined how the wars in Ukraine and Iran are driving North Korea to adopt drone technology and tactics.

Cyprus

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides calls for future talks on the British military bases in the country, which he describes as a “colonial consequence”. When Cyprus gained independence in 1960, Britain was given sovereignty over the two military bases at Akrotiri and Dhekelia.

Pakistan

In contradiction of a statement made by US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, former caretaker foreign minister Jalil Abbas Jilani stated that Pakistan’s missile capability and nuclear weapons do not pose a threat to the United States. Jilani further stated that Pakistan’s missile and nuclear capabilities are to deter India and not impose global power. The 2026 US National Intelligence’s Annual Threat Assessment stated: “Russia, China, North Korea, Iran and Pakistan have been researching and developing an array of novel, advanced, or traditional missile delivery systems with nuclear and conventional payloads, that put our Homeland within range.”

China

U.S. intelligence has concluded that China does not plan to conduct an invasion of Taiwan in 2027. Beijing sees absorbing Taiwan as a requirement by 2049, the 100th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, according to the intelligence report.
