Iran War
President Trump said that he would make a decision on whether to restart strikes on Iran very soon. Trump also asserted that Houthi rebel attacks were probably being conducted at the behest of Iran in order to drive the price of oil up before the mid-term elections. The Houthi rebels are an arm of Iran’s Axis of Resistance and have received both materiel support and training from Iran.
The IRGC claims that a cargo ship sank in the Strait of Hormuz after hitting a mine. Few details were given about the crew, but the ship was carrying approximately 2,500 containers when it caught fire.
Yemen
The Yemen coalition claims that it intercepted five drones and six missiles targeting Saudi Arabia. The coalition continues to attempt to neutralize Houthi rebel drone and missile capabilities to secure Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
According to the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms, the Houthi rebels have committed deliberate killings, indiscriminate shelling of residential neighbourhoods, and attacks on homes, private vehicles, healthcare facilities and mosques. Houthis fired 180 shells toward residential neighbourhoods during the same period, spreading fear and panic among residents, damaging several homes and killing five.
The Conflict Armament Research group published a report showing that Houthi drone and missile systems contain foreign components including electronic integrated circuits manufactured in Germany, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, and the United States. The report also found Iranian-made missile and UAV components, but only about five percent. CAR field investigators documented more than 800 missile and UAV components in the June 2025 Al Sherwa seizure.
Iraq
Iraqi, Kurdish and Iranian officials will meet on 19 October to discuss the presence of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in the Kurdistan region. In 2023, Iraq and Iran signed an agreement over Iran’s concerns about Iranian Kurdish opposition groups and under that agreement, Iraq agreed to move the groups away from the border and prevent them from using Iraqi territory to launch attacks. There have been Iranian attacks on Kurdish camps since the war with the United States began. In fact, on Monday, two drones struck a camp belonging to the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran.

Ukraine-Russia War
A Russian ballistic missile hit a Kyiv power plant, despite President Trump’s assertion that both sides agreed to an energy infrastructure ceasefire. Ukraine relies on receiving advanced warning from its Western allies, but particularly US intelligence. Zelensky claims that his government received no warning of the incoming missile attack.
Ukrainian drones hit a major data center under construction for Russian state lender Sberbank in the Saratov region. According to the bank, all banking systems and online services continued operating normally, and no employees were injured. However, some reports said Sberbank and its GigaChat artificial intelligence service experienced disruptions. Ukraine has hit Russia’s Yandex data centres, and targeting banking data centres may be the next step.
Ukraine reports that its Starlink service has been severely degraded as tensions between Ukraine and the US increase. Reports say restrictions are affecting StarShield, the military-grade version of the satellite communications service. Connectivity reportedly cuts out when terminals move faster than about 160 kilometres per hour. Those terminals are normally attached to drones that can strike targets only within Ukraine’s internationally recognized territory.
Bulgaria
Bulgaria is investigating an arson attack on Starlink antennas near Sofia. Ivailo Mirchev, an MP for the opposition Democratic Bulgaria party, posted on Facebook that 11 of the 17 Starlink antennas at a secret site were damaged. The two incidents are unlikely to be correlated, but the coincidence is there.
Latvia
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko claims that Latvia staged a security breach on its border last week. Latvian authorities reported that masked and armed individuals attempted to force a group of 20 irregular migrants to push through the border between Belarus and Latvia into Latvian territory. Lukashenko claims Latvia staged it to secure EU border funding. Experts claim that it could be a new group called Chyornye Rusy (Black Rus), and could be a front for Belarusian and Russian intelligence services.
France
France boarded another suspected Russian shadow fleet tanker. The DF Peak, previously named the Kaliningrad and flagged from Benin, is at least the fifth tanker that France has seized since 2024. Russia retorted that France conducted an act of piracy.
United Kingdom
MI5’s Director General Ken McCallum claimed that Iran and Russia are ramping up their hybrid attacks on the United Kingdom. In his annual speech on Britain’s wide-ranging threats, he said state threats had quadrupled over the last decade. McCallum could not speak about the RAF Fairford incident because it is under investigation.
Canada
Ottawa-based defence company Dominion Dynamics is partnering with Ukrainian robotics company Tencore to start building its ground-based drone vehicles in Canada as early as next year. The two companies will collaborate on the Termit drone, which has been deployed for resupply and mine-laying missions.
Sudan
Sudan’s de facto leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan ordered a probe into an airstrike that hit a gold mine near the Egyptian border, killing 72 people. The Emergency Lawyers, a rights group documenting abuses in the war, accused Egypt of carrying it out. Egypt has not commented on the strike but has remained in contact with Sudanese officials.
North Korea
North Korea opened a new defence museum featuring an assortment of weaponry, including its new intercontinental ballistic missile. Kim Jong-un toured the museum, which also has items ranging from personal combat gear to drones, a tank and missiles. Kim Jong-un called it a revolutionary treasure and said that it only demonstrates a “powerful state and people with their absolute strength powerful enough to defend themselves.”
