Georgia
Following protesters’ attempts to storm the presidential palace this weekend, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that a crackdown would be implemented. Protests in Georgia have continued for months after the Russia-leaning Georgia Dream party won elections. This protest was sparked by Georgia Dream’s claim that they won a majority in all municipalities.
Israel-Hamas
On Saturday, it was reported that President Trump would send his envoys, Steve Witkoff and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to Egypt within days to help complete a hostage release deal.
OPEC+
On Sunday, eight Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+) members, led by Saudi Arabia, announced they would increase production by 137,000 barrels per day in November, the same as the output increase in October, in an attempt to gain market share.
Germany
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Sunday laid the blame for drone sightings across Europe at Russia’s feet. A minority of the incidents, he added, involved people in Germany who were privately building drones in a kind of copycat crime.
France
After less than a month in office, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu resigned after criticism of his Cabinet nominations. Lecornu blamed political parties’ intransigence for his departure, saying each party was unwilling to compromise. Lecornu, a close ally of Macron, was France’s fifth prime minister in two years.
Somalia
Seven members of al-Shabaab have been killed after an attack on a prison in Somalia. The attackers stormed the high-level security prison and were killed after a six-hour siege of the facility. No prisoners escaped.
North Korea
Kim Jong-un calls for an increase in North Korea’s naval power to “thoroughly” punish its enemy. He said this as he visited North Korea’s first 5,000-ton Choe Hyon destroyer. This is the one that capsized a few months ago when it was being launched, and there are suspicions over Russian naval design being in play with its design.
