Iran War
Iranian state TV aired a video that purportedly shows the location of Barron Trump’s university and photos of Secret Service escort vehicles, alleging that his movements are monitored. Iranian state media also claims that a $10 million bounty has been placed on him. The broadcast was run on IRGC-affiliated media and was titled: “Where and how should we kill Barron Trump?”
Iran’s rial fell sharply to a new record low of 2 million rials to the US dollar, as the United States prepares to announce the new sanctions to be imposed on Iran as part of the “Economic D-Day”. Iran has vowed to cease all oil exports from the Gulf if that occurs.
Ukraine-Russia War
The European Union approved €6.1 billion in funding for Ukrainian air defences as part of the bloc’s €90 billion loan programme. The funding will procure air and missile defence systems, missiles, ammunition and radars.
Norway pledged $9 billion in financial assistance to Ukraine, to be used for both military and humanitarian spending.
Ukraine is targeting Russia’s other major online retailer, Ozon. On Saturday, Ukrainian drones hit an Ozon logistics center in Russia’s Samara region. Ozon is a rival of Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries. There has been no allegation yet from Ukraine that Ozon is selling dual-use equipment to Russian soldiers. Monday morning, Ukraine hit three additional Ozon warehouses in Dagestan, Stavropol Krai and Adygea.
Canada-US
Canada and the United States re-entered a trade war with Canada imposing dollar-for-dollar tariffs on American goods as of 8 September. This could affect the defence relationship between the two countries, procurement, and both countries’ defence industries.
United States
American Apache helicopters are crashing at a historically high rate due to issues with the transmission. There have been five major crashes since October 2025. Boeing has deployed teams to inspect Army maintenance depots to help inspect and fix the transmissions.
Democratic Republic of Congo
The Congolese government and the M23-led rebel alliance agreed on a roadmap for peace talks. Both sides agreed on “a standardized method for reporting” ceasefire violations and would set up a mechanism to address problems implementing the Doha agreement. This came after five days of talks in Switzerland.
Afghanistan
The Taliban announced that dissident Taliban commander Juma Khan Fateh will face trial. It is unknown what the charges will be, as the Taliban’s spokesman said, “the case and charges must first be prepared and then referred to the judicial authorities.” Following his surrender, the Taliban sent a delegation to Nusay asking residents to submit complaints and petitions concerning his conduct and governance.
India
Indian defence exports rose 62% in 2026 to $4.1 billion, with the bulk of exports comprising explosives. Orders from Israel and the UAE have grown, as have orders from European countries, as they accelerate military spending and try to diversify supply chains away from dependence on the United States.
