Mali

Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam al-Muslimin (JNIM) has cut off the capital Bamako as the group has cut off roads, ambushed fuel trucks and military patrols. It is believed that the group is attempting to encircle the capital.

Iran

Iran’s president has said his country will rebuild its nuclear sites “with greater strength,” showing defiance to US President Donald Trump’s threats to target Iran should it pursue nuclear weapons. Iran maintains that its nuclear sites will only be used for civilian purposes.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, told al-Jazeera that they are not in a hurry to enter talks with the United States concerning its nuclear programme. Iran is still open to indirect talks, but despite the pressure that it faces with sanctions and internal issues — direct negotiations are not a priority. 

Belgium

Drones were seen over one of Belgium’s air force bases for two nights straight this weekend. The Kleine Brogel Air Base is “believed to be the host to U.S. nuclear weapons under NATO’s nuclear sharing arrangements. The base also houses F-16 fighter jets and is set to host F-35s beginning in 2027”.

Germany

The German and Chinese foreign ministers have agreed to reschedule a cancelled meeting after a phone call between the two. A date should be announced soon. 

Germany’s Chief of Defence, Carsten Breuer, has rejected proposals for a military draft lottery. He argued that all young German men should be assessed for military service.
