International Arms Trade

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute found that the top 100 arms producers saw combined revenues surge as countries around the globe expand and modernize their militaries. Revenues rose 5.9% to USD 679 billion.

Ukraine-Europe

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the Élysée Palace for talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, seeking to bolster European support for a peace deal with Russia that safeguards Ukraine’s interests. Following his meeting with Macron, Zelenskyy will travel to Ireland for his first official trip there. 

Russia-Ukraine

The Kremlin said that a Ukrainian weekend attack on Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) infrastructure was outrageous given its international significance and international participation. The CPC project, which includes Russian, Kazakh and U.S. shareholders, was damaged at its Novorossiysk terminal in Russia by a Ukrainian drone attack. Operations have been halted.

Israel

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally requested a presidential pardon from President Isaac Herzog, citing the “national interest” as his corruption trial continues to divide the country. He and his wife, Sara, are accused of accepting luxury gifts in exchange for political favours and seeking favourable media coverage in two other cases.

Mali

The fuel blockade imposed by JNIM has improved after the Malian army was tasked with escorting fuel convoys. Electricity is still limited, as many areas of Bamako are restricted to only six hours a day. Increased aerial surveillance has been attributed to improved security. 

India-Russia

It is being reported that Indian Prime Minister Modi will seek to purchase Russian fighter jets and air defence systems during Putin’s trip to India this week. It is believed that Modi will approach Putin on providing the fifth-generation Su-57 aircraft and the S-500 air defense system. 

Afghanistan

The Afghanistan Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front, two armed anti-Taliban opposition groups, claim to have carried out attacks this weekend. These two groups do not pose a strategic threat to the Taliban, but are the most active armed resistance groups in the country, and are comprised of former Afghan National Defence and Security Forces personnel.
