United States
President Trump is defending Steve Witkoff after a leak shows that Witkoff was coaching Russia on how to appeal to Donald Trump. Trump is trying to say it’s standard practice and that no harm has been done. Witkoff is scheduled to meet with Putin next week. It should also be stated that there has been no US State Department translator, and Witkoff has relied on Kremlin translators with his engagements.
Canada
A minor was arrested for posting edited ISIS videos and seeking firearms with the likely intent of conducting a terrorist attack. There has been a downward trend in the age of those getting involved in extremist violence. The Canadian Security and Intelligence Service states that one in ten of their investigations involves at least one minor involved in extremism.
In documents obtained by Radio-Canada, the F-35 beat the Gripen by a significant score. The Department of National Defence ranked the F-35 57.1 out of 60 in military capabilities, and the Gripen received 19.8 out of 60 in the 2021 competition. As the fight for who will receive the full contract, a document leak was just a matter of time.
Nigeria
Twenty-four schoolgirls who were abducted last week have been released. Nigerian officials still say that there are over 250 still missing from the abduction that occurred from a Catholic school last Friday.
Pakistan-Iran
Chief of the Army Staff Asim Munir met with Iranian counterparts to stress the need for counterterrorism cooperation. Iran and Pakistan share a long border, which both countries state that terrorists and radicals have safe havens in either country.
South Korea-Poland
South Korea will transfer its 1,200-ton submarine, the ROKS Jang Bogo, free of charge. Poland is considering the Hanhwa KSS-III submarine for its acquisition of up to four ORKA-class submarines. The ROKS Jang Bogo served the South Korean Navy for 34 years.
North Korea
It is estimated that North Korea has as many as 150 nuclear weapons in its stockpile now, and that by 2040, it may possess more than 400 Lee Sang-kyu, chief of the nuclear security research division at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses (KIDA), made these estimations and says that currently North Korea may have 115 and 131 uranium-based weapons and between 15 and 19 plutonium bombs. This estimation is two or three times higher than Western estimations.
