Iran Ceasefire

President Trump swiftly rejected Iran’s counter-proposal for peace. Iranian State TV claims that in the proposal, Iran demanded compensation for war damage and emphasized Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also describes their proposal as ‘reasonable and generous’.

Poland

The Polish intelligence service (ABW) conducted as many counter-intelligence investigations in 2024 and 2025 as it had in the previous three decades. Poland saw a rise in espionage activity “primarily on the part of Russian and closely allied Belarusian special services as well as China.” There is an emergence of “single-use” agents. Hybrid-warafe and espionage jobs are posted in online chat groups, usually on Telegram, directed at Russian-speaking populations. 

UK Election

After the Labour Party was mauled in last week’s local election, including for the first time the loss of Wales, Prime Minister Keir Starmer today said he has no intention of resigning. The main result is that the UK is now no longer a two-party state; it is now a five-party state, with Reform, the Greens and the Liberal Democrats added. 

Israel-Iraq

Israel established a clandestine military outpost in the Iraqi desert in support of its strikes against Iran. The base was reportedly built before the war started and served as a staging point for search-and-rescue teams if needed. In March, Iraqi soldiers investigating reports of military activity were killed or injured when they got too close. 

Democratic Republic of Congo

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), which pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, killed at least 36 people in two days of attacks in the northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo last week. A new Amnesty International report accuses the ADF of kidnappings, keeping forced labourers, recruiting child soldiers and “crimes against women and girls, including forced marriage, forced pregnancy and various other forms of sexual violence. 

Mali

A new wave of jihadist attacks in central Mali occurred this weekend, and between 70 and 80 people were killed. JNIM has increased its attacks on the civilian population in villages that refuse to sign local agreements with the al-Qaeda linked terrorist group. 

Pakistan

A suicide attack on a Fateh Khel police post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district resulted in the deaths of at least 15 Pakistani police officers. After the suicide explosion, the police post was under heavy fire from multiple directions.
