Iran
Israel claims that it killed Ali Larijani, Iran’s top security official. Israel also claims that it killed Gholam Reza Soleimani, the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s all-volunteer Basij force. It seems that Israel’s campaign of leadership decapitation continues. Iran’s embassy in India published a six-point letter to Muslims worldwide that Larijani had written. It will be found in the social media wires below.
Israel is planning for three more weeks of operations to severely degrade Iran’s defence industrial capacity.
The White House claims that oil tankers are starting to “dribble” through the Strait of Hormuz. White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett stated that the war has not hurt the US economy. The average price of gasoline per gallon has risen from $2.98 before the war to $3.63.
Afghanistan-Pakistan
The Pakistani Air Force struck a former NATO base in Kabul that was being used as a drug rehabilitation centre and also as a suicide drone manufacturing site. It is not clear how many were killed but Hamdullah Fitrat, the Taliban’s deputy spokesperson, claims that 400 people were killed and a further 250 were wounded. Using civilians as human shields is a war crime, which the facility’s dual-purpose would suggest. Pakistan, however, denies that it hit the treatment facility and that the drug rehabilitation centre was far away from Camp Phoenix.
Cuba
With the island nation facing a total power blackout, President Trump stated that he will “have the honour” of taking Cuba. He further stated: “Whether I free it, take it – think I could do anything I want with it. You want to know the truth. They’re a very weakened nation right now.” The US is in negotiations with Cuba, and according to the New York Times, US officials told Cuba to remove its president, Miguel Díaz-Canel.
Nigeria
At least 23 people were killed, and over a hundred were injured in suicide bombings in northeastern Nigeria. The attacks occurred when large crowds gathered after the day’s Ramadan fast was broken. Nigerian security officials claim that the attacks were carried out by Boko Haram.
Ukraine
Ukraine has accepted EU funding and support to fix the Druzhba oil pipeline. This pipeline has been at the centre of new tensions between Hungary and Ukraine following its damage. Hungary has been cut off from Russian oil imports, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban claimed that Ukraine was intentionally not repairing the pipeline to starve the country of Russian oil.
United States
Top US counterterrorism official has resigned over the Iranian war. National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent stated that there was no imminent threat from Iran.
