The US Treasury Department announced restrictions on the A7 Network, which is a Russian shadow banking system Iran uses to evade sanctions. According to the US Treasury, the network falsifies trade documents, import-export records, and descriptions of goods, making sanctioned payments appear as ordinary commercial activity. In January, the A7 Network claimed to process more than 2,000 transactions per day for Russian entities, totalling 81.44 billion euros ($91.5 billion). The network accounted for about 13 percent of Russia’s 2025 foreign trade transactions.

Ethiopia and Eritrea have broken diplomatic ties over the latest conflict. Both countries accuse each other of stoking and supporting internal conflicts. Both countries have expelled diplomats, and Ethiopia says it will shut its embassy in Asmara. Concerns that the conflict could expand regionally have become more dire.
