Canada

The Canadian government announced plans to create a Defence Investment Agency. The proposed agency will purportedly decrease procurement wait times and increase defence investment in the Canadian defence industry sector. It will also increase Canadian ties with the UK, Australia and France.

China-India

China and India will resume direct flights between the two countries in late October, after flights were suspended during COVID-19 in 2020. The Indian embassy in China said the resumption is part of the Indian government’s “approach towards gradual normalization of relations between India and China.”

Iran

Iran’s president has claimed Iran has no choice but to move its capital from Tehran to the south of the country due to the city’s over-expansion, the lack of adequate water supplies and the growing threat of subsidence.

Russia-NATO

Vladimir Putin has vowed to quickly retaliate against Europe’s “escalating militarisation”, while dismissing as “nonsense” Western fears that Moscow plans to attack NATO. Russia also previously ridiculed suspicions that it would invade Ukraine.

Israel

Hamas fired a total of five rockets into Israel from Gaza yesterday. Yesterday was Yom Kippur, one of the most holy days in the Jewish faith. It should be noted that a total of five rockets were fired, and if we compared to that of last year – Hamas’ ability to launch missiles and attacks on Israel has been severely degraded.
