US

Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator and activist, was assassinated at a Utah college campus on Wednesday. A manhunt is underway for the shooter, who fired a single shot, seemingly from a rooftop. The mood on social media is tense, with the left wing celebrating Kirk’s death and the right calling for vengeance

US-UK

Britain’s embattled prime minister, Kier Starmer today fired his ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson over his connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Mandelson has described Epstein as his “best pal,” and had supported Epstein after his conviction in 2008 for prostitution charges. 

Italy

Two armed Turkish men were arrested in the Italian city of Viterbo before a popular local festival. It is believed that hte two men were preparing an attack on the festival were thousands of people attend. It is not known if it was a suspected terrorist attack as Turkish authorities have been working with European police to crackdown on Turkish criminal groups operating abroad.

Belarus

Belarus has freed 52 prisoners, and they have crossed into Lithuania, the Lithuanian president said Thursday. Among those released were 14 foreigners — six Lithuanians, two Latvians, two Poles, two Germans, one French national and one UK national — according to the Belarusian presidency’s press service.

Qatar

In the aftermath of the Israeli strike on Hamas leadership in Qatar, the Qatari Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, stated that Netanyahu “killed” any prospect of the Israeli hostages being released. Qatari officials have been attempting to mediate between Israel and Hamas over the conflict, which erupted almost two years ago.

Niger

Jihadist groups have summarily executed 127 people since March, says Human Rights Watch. The Sahel region continues to be a rampant environment for al-Qaeda and ISIS-linked groups. 

Mali

Mali acquired new military equipment from China, which includes long-range missile launchers and infantry fighting vehicles. Mali has been diversifying its military equipment procurement through Russian and Chinese suppliers since the expulsion of French forces in 2022.

Mexico-China

Mexico has announced plans to impose a 50% tariff on cars from China and other Asian countries, following lobbying by the Trump administration. Aside from vehicles, Mexico wants to target imports like steel, toys, motorcycles, and textiles, with proposed tariffs ranging from 10% to 50%.
