On Sunday, US forces pulled off an impressive rescue operation for the second downed airman in Iran. With the US Air Force keeping Iranian forces at bay, the unidentified second airman, who was wounded, evaded capture for two days, climbing up to a ridgeline before being met with special operators sent to rescue him. The CIA was heavily involved, both finding the pilot and muddying the information space to convince the Iranians he was being escorted overland for exfiltration. When one exfiltration option was a bust, US forces destroyed the planes they were supposed to leave on and departed on newly arrived ones.
