France

France marks the 10th anniversary of the Bataclan attack in Paris. ISIS-linked Jihadist gunmen and suicide bombers conducted a coordinated attack on the city, which resulted in the deaths of 130 people and more than 400 injured.

In a startling backdrop, a former girlfriend of the only jihadist who survived has been arrested on suspicion of plotting her own attack

Sudan

The US calls for international action to cut weapons supply to Sudan’s paramilitary group, the RSF. At the end of the G7 foreign ministerial in Canada, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the RSF has committed atrocities, including murder, rape and sexual violence against civilians.

United States

The longest shutdown in American history (the second longest was during the first Trump administration) is over.

It has been estimated that the cost of officially changing the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War can only be done by Congress and would cost up to $2 billion to update thousands of signs, rewriting digital code and creating new letterheads, placards and badges.

Kenya

Kenya’s Foreign Minister, Musalia Mudavadi, is urging Kenyans to exercise caution, as recruitment agencies are luring them on false grounds to fight for Russia in Ukraine. It is estimated that approximately 200 Kenyans are fighting for Russia. Last week, Ukraine estimated that there were 1,400 African citizens from three dozen African countries fighting alongside Russian forces.

Pakistan

Pakistani authorities have confirmed an Afghan link to the Islamabad court blast. Rawalpindi’s Counter-Terrorism Department arrested seven suspects who allegedly facilitated the attack. Another suicide blast also occurred on Monday at a college in South Waziristan – it is also believed that there is an Afghan link to that attack. Pakistan has warned the Afghan Taliban to rein in terrorist groups, such as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, who are enjoying sanctuary under the Afghan Taliban.
