Iran Ceasefire
The Iranian parliament is reviewing a bill that will place a €50 million bounty on President Donald Trump and will be paid out to any individual or entity. Does McDonald’s count?
Admiral Brad Cooper, of US CENTCOM, claims that with the 38-day campaign, they were able to dismantle Iran’s ability to project power throughout the Middle East. In short: in 38 days, we rolled back 40 years of Iranian military investment,” Cooper said in prepared testimony. Israel and the US conducted more than 10,200 sorties and over 13,500 strikes targeting and damaging or destroying more than 85% of Iran’s ballistic missile, drone, and naval defence industrial base.
President Trump stated that he is “not going to be much more patient with Iran” and urged the country to make a deal.
Iran is seeking financial assistance from the IMF and the World Bank as a result of the Iran War.
Mali
Mali’s army conducted air strikes on the northern town of Kidal. A strategic town that Tuareg rebels and the al-Qaeda-linked JNIM took control of in late April. A Malian officer stated that the air campaign will be intensified in the coming days.
North Korea
According to the Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky, a North Korea-linked hacking group is using AI to develop malicious software targeting the government’s electronic authentication system.
Ukraine
President Zelensky instructed the military to prepare “possible formats for our response” after Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv killed at least 21 people and injured at least 47 others.
Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack on Russian military and energy infrastructure in multiple regions. Ukraine once again targeted the Ryazan oil refinery, which produces up to 17.1 million tons of oil per year.
Cuba
Cuba’s energy minister, Vicente de la O Levy, declared that the country is completely out of diesel and gasoline. Protests across the country erupted after news of this was made. Cuba has been under a fuel blockade by the Trump administration. Earlier, a Russian oil tanker stopped in Havana and unloaded its cargo.
Yemen
Yemen’s warring parties will exchange 1,750 prisoners, including 27 prisoners and detainees from the coalition forces, among them seven Saudis. Prisoners were exchanged in 2020 and 2023, and the exchanges took 15 weeks of negotiations under the auspices of the UN in Jordan.
Bosnia
A UN country denied the early release of Bosnian Serb war criminal Ratko Mladić on the grounds that he is nearing the end of his life. While agreeing that he was “in the final stages of his life”, Judge Graciela Gatti Santana said conditions at the UN prison and its hospital in The Hague “are of such high quality that Mladić comfort can be maximally ensured”.
