Australia

The Australian Defence Ministry has been stripped of its responsibility for delivering major procurement projects, and that will be handed to a new independent agency. The aim is to reduce lengthy delays and projects going over budget. At the moment, Australia’s defence budget is 56 billion dollars a year and will double by 2034.

Russia

President Putin stated that if Europe wants a war, Russia is ready, but that Russia is not seeking a war with Europe. These comments were made when Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were in Moscow.  A clear signal that Putin is trying to drive a wedge between the US and Europe. 

The Kremlin stated that more work needs to be done before a peace deal can be achieved

United States

An Afghan man was arrested in Texas after threatening on social media to build a bomb and carry out a suicide attack. This comes as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the accused National Guard shooter in Washington, pled not guilty to the charges laid. 

Mozambique

As violence continues in Mozambique, 100,000 people have been displaced. Armed groups in the north have been storming villages, killing civilians and burning homes. The fighters are aligned with the Islamic State group in the region.  

Afghanistan

The Afghan Taliban vow border security cooperation with Tajikistan after the drone attack that injured Chinese workers last week. IT should be noted that the Afghan Taliban have had issues with reining in other terrorist groups that are enjoying safe haven within its borders.

Syria

The US and Syrian forces destroyed 15 sites that contained weapons caches for ISIS. CENTCOM stated that “130 mortars and rockets, multiple assault rifles, machine guns, anti-tank mines and materials for building improvised explosive devices.” Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former al-Qaeda commander, ensured that strikes against ISIS targets were done ahead of his meeting with President Trump in Washington.
