Iran

Iranian State TV says that its parliamentary speaker met with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Khamaeni has not been seen or heard in public since becoming leader on 8 March. According to state TV, they met to discuss the “military, economic and cognitive warfare” waged by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The IRGC claims that it struck seven vessels in the western Strait of Hormuz and threatened that it will expand hostilities. The IRGC claims that three hit naval mines, although no mine incident has been confirmed lately, and four vessels were struck while conducting ship-to-ship oil transfers. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has not reported attacks on seven vessels in the last 24 hours. The latest attack reported was Wednesday, 11 nautical miles off Oman, where local authorities reported that a tanker had been struck by “an unknown projectile.”

Israel

The Israeli Air Force conducted a massive training mission by the Iranian border. Some see it as a show of force before the Israeli elections, while others see it as a provocation, hoping that Iran would escalate. There are sources that suggest that the hope was Iran would fire on the aircraft and provide justification for an armed response and renewed campaign against Iran. This also occurred just as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth met with Israeli officials for undisclosed reasons.

Yemen

Houthi rebels fired a ballistic missile at the Aden International Airport as fighting in Taiz intensifies. The situation in Taiz continues to worsen. Houthi rebels continue to block supply routes amid escalating clashes around the provincial capital, which is home to more than 600,000 civilians. And according to Save the Children, water production has fallen by about 50%.

Iraq

An Iranian-backed Iraqi militia, Harakat al-Nujaba Abdul Qader al-Karbalai, stated that it will not disarm, nor join Iraq’s political process. This comes as the Iraqi government attempts to reaffirm that it will disarm non-government groups and potentially integrate them into the Iraqi security apparatus. The statement also comes after Iraqi officials rejected the Iranian ambassador’s remarks that Iraq is willing to hand over Iranian Kurdish opposition groups to Iran.

Ukraine’s embassy in Iraq rejected allegations by media affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that Kyiv had deployed drone units in the Kurdistan Region. Tasnim News Agency claimed that Ukraine has “an operational network for micro-drones” across several countries surrounding Iran.

Iraq closed a border crossing with Iran until an unspecified time. Iraq did so because the United States is attempting to tighten the screws on the regime and asked Iraq to do so. The US is pressuring Baghdad to close more crossings. The two countries share a border of more than 1,400 kilometres (850 miles) with at least eight official crossings.

Global Climate Change

The United Nations has retreated from its goal of avoiding 1.5C of global temperature warming from the pre-industrial era. The UN’s new messaging is that the goal should be 1.7 or 1.8 degrees, and that global temperatures should be brought down from that. The UN released a report saying that we may have already exceeded the 1.5 target this summer. In any case, the new UN benchmark indicates that humanity has failed to curb carbon emissions enough.

Ukraine-Russia War

President Zelensky said he is willing to back freezing the current frontline to ensure a ceasefire. Zelensky also stated that Ukraine must have a seat at any negotiation, alluding to Putin’s proposed trilateral meeting with the United States and China.

Ukraine’s military intelligence has identified a new Russian cruise missile and dubbed it “Filin”. The HUR released a 3-D model of the missile, along with a list of components and electronics, on its website. The missile is 3.5 meters long with a 3-meter wingspan and can carry either a 50-kilogram or 100-kilogram warhead, HUR said. It can fly at ultra-low altitudes and up to 6 kilometres (about 3.7 miles) high, with a top speed of 800 kilometres per hour (about 497 miles per hour), over a distance of 1,200 kilometres (about 745 miles), according to the agency. Some parts are 3-D printed, and the share of Chinese components has increased, but it also includes 35 US-made components.

Russia

Russia arrested a German and accused him of fighting as a mercenary for Ukraine’s military. The FSB claims he is a former Bundeswehr soldier who served from 1996 to 2010 and who served in Afghanistan and Somalia between 2004 and 2010. He later served in Syria as a mercenary and, between 2016 and 2018, served with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, fighting in the Donbas region. Russia has been arresting foreign nationals as of late to create a prisoner swap pool with the West.

Central African Republic

The UN warned against a premature peacekeeping exit from the Central African Republic. Since July 2025, the UN peacekeeping force has disarmed 1,907 fighters and established municipal councils in 127 of 177 municipalities; however, large areas of the CAR remain unstable. The UN Secretary-General has suggested extending the mission by one year.

Artificial Intelligence

Many government and corporate websites shut down after two critical flaws in PHP, a programming language that powers 70% of the world’s websites, were discovered. Security firm Calif identified one flaw in August during an OpenAI-funded audit of PHP, while Google-owned cybersecurity company Wiz independently discovered and reported both vulnerabilities. OpenAI said its GPT-5.6 Sol model was used in the Calif research.
