Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is meeting Trump at the White House today. It is believed that Tomahawk cruise missiles will be discussed, as well as other long-range weapons options. Trump had a two-hour phone call with Putin yesterday, and he is expected to meet him in Hungary at a later date.

Ukraine

The Ukrainian General Staff states that North Korean troops are assisting Russian operations in Sumy Oblast. A North Korean drone team in the Russian Kursk region was directing Russian artillery fire in Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast. This is the first evidence of North Koreans assisting in offensive operations.  The footage came from the drone, which was down in Sumy Oblast.

Romania

A suspected gas explosion at an eight-story residential building in Bucharest has left three dead and at least 17 injured. The blast affected two floors of the building, with damage centred around the upper corner apartments. Romanian authorities have stated that the building is at risk of total collapse.

Venezuela-US

The Miami Herald reports that President Maduro offered to step down and allow his lieutenants to take power in a managed transition in return for access to Venezuela for American companies. The offer was rejected by the US, which seeks the removal of the entire regime.

China-UK

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “grave concern and strong dissatisfaction” after the UK said it was pushing back a final decision on a proposed Chinese “mega embassy” in London. That decision will be made on Dec 10. A Chinese spokesman said China had acted with “the utmost sincerity and patience” and the UK should “immediately fulfil its obligations and honour its commitments, otherwise the British side shall bear all consequences”. Downing Street this week said the decision had been delayed again in the midst of a separate controversy over two British citizens accused of spying for China.

China

China has purged its second-most senior general and eight other high-ranking military commanders. Gen. He Weidong, the lower-ranking of the two vice chairmen on the Communist Party’s top military decision-making body and a member of the 24-man Politburo, has been dismissed from the party and the military for severe disciplinary violations and abuses of power, a spokesman for China’s Defence Ministry said. Gen. He is the most senior active-duty military officer that Xi has purged, and the first incumbent vice chair of the Central Military Commission, or CMC, to be ousted in nearly four decades.

Yemen

Houthi rebels state that their Chief of Staff Muhammad Abd al-Karim al-Ghamari was killed in an explosion. Israel took responsibility for the killing immediately, saying, “We will do the same against any threat in the future as well.” Throughout the Houthi campaign of attempting to impose a blockade on the Red Sea and launching missiles at Israel, there has been no attempt to kill the Houthi leadership until now.
