Russia
President Putin announced the successful test of the Burevestnik intercontinental ballistic missile. This missile is one of Putin’s nuclear wonder weapons that has been rumoured to be under development at the Arctic research site of Novaya Zemlya. It has been touted to be nuclear-powered as well as nuclear-armed and, therefore, on paper, could travel almost indefinitely. According to the Moscow Times, “Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov told Putin the test took place on Tuesday, with the missile flying 14,000 kilometers (8,700 miles) over the course of about 15 hours.”
Sudan
Anti-government paramilitary group, the RSF, have seized the government military headquarters in the city of el-Fasher, which is seen to be the last western stronghold for the Sudanese Armed Forces. Despite taking the headquarters, the situation in el-Fasher remains unchanged, with fighting continuing for the city.
Afghanistan-Pakistan
Peace talks between the Afghan Taliban and Pakistan are at an impasse. Pakistan demands that the Afghan Taliban cease hosting Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist groups that target Pakistan. The Afghan Taliban are reluctant to take any action against those sanctuaries.
Pakistani security forces killed 25 terrorists in the North Waziristan and Kurram districts. These terrorists are believed to be from the TTP and were attempting to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan.
Gaza
King Abdullah of Jordan stated that no international force would want to be deployed in Gaza until the fighting stops completely. King Abdullah told the BBC that: “Peacekeeping is that you’re sitting there supporting the local police force, the Palestinians, which Jordan and Egypt are willing to train in large numbers, but that takes time. If we’re running around Gaza on patrol with weapons, that’s not a situation that any country would like to get involved in.” So the likelihood of an international peacekeeping force still hangs in the balance.
Hungary
U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker is putting Hungary in the hot seat, saying Hungary, unlike many of its neighbours, has no plans to wean itself off Russian oil and gas. The US expects Hungary, Slovakia, and Türkiye to stop importing Russian oil and gas.
