Iran War

President Trump threatened that the US would bomb Iran back to the Stone Age, and it would only take one night or perhaps four hours of bombing to do so. Trump, on the weekend, threatened to bomb Iran’s power plants and bridges – prompting criticism of committing possible war crimes if he does. Trump, later, said that a whole civilization will die tonight.

Iran threatened that it would close the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait if the US went after Iranian infrastructure. It would do so by signalling to the Houthis that it can fire missiles, drones, and launch sea-based drones into the strait and disrupt traffic. Typically, 12% of the world’s trade goes through the Bab el-Mandeb. It has increased recently, with Saudi Arabia sending millions of barrels of crude oil per day through Bab el-Mandeb.

Israel’s Defence Minister stated that Israel hit Iran’s largest petrochemical facility. The facility is located in Asaluyeh and is responsible for about 50 percent of the country’s petrochemical production. Israel Katz claimed that “This represents a severe economic blow amounting to tens of billions of dollars to the Iranian regime.”

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan claims that Israel is undermining all efforts to halt the war in the Middle East. Türkiye is attempting to mediate the conflict alongside Egypt and Pakistan.

Lebanon

The IDF claim that they have completed the deployment of ground troops along a “defence line” in southern Lebanon, where it is fighting Iran-backed Hezbollah. The IDF aim to create a security buffer zone, but in doing so, it is also occupying Lebanese territory south of the Litani River.

Nigeria

Locals are disputing the claim that the Nigerian army rescued 31 individuals from bandits, which was in yesterday’s Wires Brief. Locals state that those who were ‘rescued’ are still in the hands of the bandits who kidnapped them. The Nigerian army has not commented.

Ukraine

Ukraine launched fresh strikes on Ust-Luga port, intensifying attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. Between 22 and 31 March, Ukraine launched five attacks on the port and the oil terminal there.

South Korea-Indonesia

South Korea is mulling over the transfer of one of its six KF-21 fighter jet prototypes to Jakarta as the joint development project nears completion. Both countries agreed to transfer the single-seat KF-21 prototype that has been used for verification tests, such as aerial refueling.
