South Korea
South Korea proposes talks with North Korea on how to further clarify the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) to prevent possible clashes between the two countries. This comes after an incident a few weeks ago, where armed North Korean soldiers were fired upon when they crossed the MDL to work on mining or demining operations.
Eastern European media
At the time of writing out our Wires Brief, both The Moscow Times and the Kyiv Independent were suffering internet server issues. It does not appear to be an attack. Just that Cloudflare had an internal update issue.
Polish Railway
A recent act of sabotage on a Polish railway was conducted by two Ukrainians hired by Russia, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. One of the suspects was also tried in absentia for acts of sabotage in western Ukraine.
Sudan
UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher told reporters that the UN needs to dramatically enlarge its presence in the country to document war crimes and hopefully prevent further atrocities. Fletcher also that “nearly two in every three people in Sudan” require assistance, and the UN appeal is 32 per cent funded of the 4 billion needed for 2025.
Germany-Canada
The German Navy will purchase a $1 billion combat management system (CMS) for its new combat ships from Lockheed Martin Canada. The CMS was developed for the Royal Canadian Navy and was also exported and installed in the Royal New Zealand Navy.
F-35s and Saudi Arabia
President Trump announced that he would sell Saudi Arabia the F-35s that it wants ahead of a planned visit to the Kingdom. There have been reservations within the Pentagon, and many have pointed out how it would alter the security balance in the region. The Israeli Defence Force just announced that it formally opposes the plan to sell F-35s to Saudi Arabia.
