Indonesia
Fifty-four people were admitted to hospital after an explosion targeted Friday prayers at a mosque inside a high school complex in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta. The 17-year-old, who is suspected of carrying out the explosion, is in surgery. Police are investigating the suspect’s background and possible motivation for the attack.
Israel
The United States is urging Israel to allow hundreds of Hamas fighters to leave the tunnels where they are stranded. Last week, a detachment of Israeli engineers, assigned to the task of destroying those tunnels, was fired upon “Hamas militants sprang from a hidden shaft, fired an antitank missile toward their excavator and killed two soldiers.”Those fighters may also still have fight in them, and it is not simply a matter of humanitarian grounds.
North Korea
North Korea has fired a suspected ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missile flew about 700 kilometres (434 miles) cross-country after being fired from an inland area around the western county of Taekwan. US and South Korean intelligence monitored the launch preparations and are analysing.
United States
Following the directive of President Trump that the US should match Russian nuclear tests, the US launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
Sudan
The RSF has agreed to a truce with the Sudanese Armed Forces following a ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The SAF has not commented on the ceasefire yet, which would see a three-month humanitarian pause followed by a permanent ceasefire.
China
China’s third aircraft carrier, the Fujian, has been commissioned into service. The announcement was made today, though the ceremony occurred on Wednesday. The name of the ship is symbolic as Fujian is also the name of the Chinese coastal province facing the island of Taiwan in the South China Sea. Fujian is the first aircraft carrier that China has built independently.
