United States
The US War Department launched “Google Cloud’s Gemini for Government as the first of several frontier AI capabilities to be housed on GenAI.mil, the Department’s new bespoke AI platform. This initiative cultivates an “AI-first” workforce, leveraging generative AI capabilities to create a more efficient and battle-ready enterprise. Additional world-class AI models will be available to all civilians, contractors, and military personnel.”
The US House of Representatives approves multi-year military aid of 400 million dollars to Ukraine until the end of 2027. The legislation also bars the Pentagon from reducing the number of personnel “permanently stationed in or deployed” to Europe below 76,000 for longer than 45 days.
The US seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela. The Venezuelan government claims that it is an act of piracy. The US claims that the ship is used to transport sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran and is part of an illicit oil shipping network supporting foreign terrorist organizations.
Russia
A cyberattack has crippled Russia’s military registration database. Grigory Sverdlin, a Russian activist in Georgia, claims that he has been in communication with the hackers and that “for the next few months, the system (which holds 30 million records) will not be able to send people off to kill or die.” Russia will probably move to analog means.
Peru
South Korea will provide 195 armoured vehicles to Peru, including 54 K2 Panther tanks. The deal aims to strengthen industrial cooperation between Korean defence companies and Peru’s state-owned manufacturer. Peru is thefirst Latin American country to purchase armoured vehicles from South Korea.
Colombia
The United States sanctioned a network that has been sending Colombian fighters to Sudan to fight with the RSF. The US State Department says that hundreds of Colombian mercenaries have travelled to Sudan since 2024, including to serve as infantry and drone pilots for the RSF.
Israel
Israeli researchers claim in a new study that computer-based training exercises can significantly reduce the risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among IDF combat soldiers. The research was conducted by Prof. Yair Bar-Haim, professor of psychology and neuroscience at TAU and director of the National Center for Traumatic Stress and Resilience, and doctoral student Chelsea Gober Dykan and it is believed that the training exercises can reduce PTSD numbers by fivefold.
Pakistan
THe US approved the sale of 686 million dollars of technology related to Pakistan’s F-16 fleet. This will include Link–16 systems, cryptographic equipment, avionics updates, training, and comprehensive logistical support.
