European Union

The EU has once again decided not to do something bold. The EU agreed to a €90 billion loan to Ukraine over the next two years and not to do anything with Russia’s frozen assets. EU leaders could not convince Belgium’s Prime Minister to agree to the plan, which holds most of the frozen assets.

Sudan

The UN says that the RSF killed over 1,000 refugees at the Zamzam Refugee camp in April. In a three-day attack, the RSF besieged the city of el-Fashir and as part of that, the Zamzam refugee camp. There have been multiple reports that the RSF is burning bodies and digging mass graves in an attempt to hide the atrocities that they carried out.

Pakistan

It has been revealed that Pakistani authorities arrested Islamic State – Khorasan Province (ISKP) spokesman, Sultan Aziz Azzam, last year. The ISKP capability has been downgraded with the arrests of high-profile ISKP leaders in the border region, which began in May. Of course, this will allow for lower, more extreme members to assume the ranks.

South Korea

The South Korean Defence Ministry seeks to have nuclear fuel for nuclear-powered submarines within the next two years. Talks with the United States will have to be concluded by then. It seems that the South Koreans want this deal ratified before the next US election, where Trump’s successor may not be as amicable to further nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the role of the Ministry of Unification regarding its North Korean policy, rather than the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There has been infighting between the two ministries over which ministry has the North Korea portfolio. South Korea will also announce a Korean Peninsula Peace Envoy soon.

Israel

Thirteen police officers are hurt during an Ultra Orthodox riot in Jerusalem. Violence ensued after an inspector was attempting to serve a parking ticket to suspected draft dodgers, which then broke out into a full-blown riot involving hundreds of young Haredi men.
