Iran Ceasefire
President Trump announced an extension of the Iran ceasefire. Trump credited Pakistani Field Marshal Munir and Prime Minister Sharif for convincing the US administration to give an unspecified amount of time for a fractured Iranian government to come up with their own proposals.
It is being reported that Israeli intelligence confirms that there are major fractures within Iran’s leadership. The IRGC has created a military council, full of hardliners, that has shielded the Supreme Leader from governance.
The IRGC claims that it has seized two ships trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. One of the vessels, a Librarian-flagged container ship named EPAMINONDAS, was en route to Gujarat, India. A third ship was fired upon.
The cargo ship that the US boarded on Sunday was likely carrying dual-use items that could be used by Iran’s military. The TOUSKA was bound from China. US CENTCOM did not go into detail as to what items were on board the small cargo ship.
United States
President Trump announced that his government will be seeking a defense budget of $1.5 trillion. This will include spending for the Golden Dome, an ambitious missile defence network and Trump’s Golden Battleships.
A Centre for Strategic & International Studies report finds that the US has fired “almost 50 percent of its Patriot missile stockpile; more than half of Terminal High Altitude Area Defenses (THAADs) and over 45 percent of its Precision Strike Missiles (PrSMs) stockpiles during the air and missile campaign in Iran.”
Ukraine
The EU unblocked the €90 billion loan to Ukraine, which Hungary had long blocked. They also approved a 20th package of sanctions on Russia over its invasion of its neighbour. The loan will assist Ukraine in battling its most urgent economic and military needs.
US-Iraq
The Trump administration has suspended U.S. dollar shipments to Iraq and frozen security cooperation programs with its military until Baghdad puts a stop to pro-Iranian militia attacks and takes steps to dismantle the armed groups.
Sudan
An investigation by the Conflict Insights Group claims that the UAE is sending Colombian mercenaries to Sudan to fight with the RSF. The UAE has long denied any accusation that it supports the RSF, which has been battling government forces for over three years.
Mexico-US
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is demanding an investigation into the role two recently killed American officials were playing in Mexico. The two dead Americans are suspected of being CIA employees directly assisting local Mexican law enforcement in their fight against the cartels.
