Iran Ceasefire

The World Bank warns that the US-Iran War will slow the global economy to the lowest point since the height of the COVID pandemic. The World Bank blames it on surging energy prices, inflation and borrowing costs. Growth could plummet to as low as 1.3 percent this year, should energy supply disruptions worsen, with inflation pushing to 4.4 percent. 

President Trump claims that there is an imminent deal with Iran. He also has said this for the 40th time since the war began. Trump also claims that he cancelled military strikes on Iran last night. 

An Iranian group claims that it has been able to hack drones utilized by the FBI. The Iranian group also threatens that it will target the FIFA World Cup, which began yesterday.

Russia-Ukraine War

Russian oil output fell to a one-year low due to Ukrainian drone strikes on its energy infrastructure. Russia produced an average of 9.009 million barrels of crude per day in May, down from April levels and 690,000 barrels below its commitment to OPEC+.

Ukraine confirms the strike on Crimea’s Armiansk bridge, which also hit 50 Russian vehicles in the strike. This comes as Ukraine is attempting to isolate Crimea from Russian military and logistical supply, which was confirmed by a Ukrainian drone commander.

Ukraine targeted major energy and petrochemical facilities in central Russia’s Samara region and the republic of Tatarstan as Russians celebrate Russia Day.

Nigeria

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu claims that over 13,000 terrorists were killed last year. Tinubu also claims that 124,000 fighters and dependents have laid down their arms since 2023 through Operation Safe Corridor”. Nigeria is facing a jihadist insurgency from Boko Haram and the Islamic State-West African Province chapter and faces various kidnappings and other activities from bandits. 

Pakistan

Pakistan received its first Hangor-class submarine. The class was named after PNS Hangor, which during the 1971 War with India, which sank the Indian frigate INS Khukri. There will be 8 in its class. The Pakistani Navy claims to have advanced combat systems, modern sensors, Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology, and enhanced stealth features.

Thailand

Thai courts sentenced two Chinese Uyghur men to death for the 2015 bombing of a shrine in central Bangkok that is popular with foreign tourists. Twenty people were killed and more than 120 injured from the blast. 

Sudan

A drone strike hit a funeral procession in the Sudanese city of el-Obeid, killing at least four people and injuring several others. Two rights groups, Sudan Doctors Network and Emergency Lawyers, blame the RSF for the attack. El-Obeid is controlled by the Sudanese military.
