Ukraine

It is being reported that the Trump administration is tying security guarantees to Ukraine if Ukraine cedes the Donbas region to Russia. The US stated that it would give security guarantees to Ukraine if a peace deal is reached. It is believed that there are discussions of ceding Donbas to Russia. 

Turkey-Iran

Top Turkish foreign ministry officials briefed lawmakers last week in a closed-door meeting at parliament, telling them that Ankara is preparing for several potential scenarios regarding Iran, including plans to establish a buffer zone on the Iranian side of the border if the worst-case scenario unfolds, and the government in Tehran collapses.

Russia-Syria

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday. Details are scarce about what the two will discuss; it’s possible that they will discuss a Russian troop withdrawal from a base in northeastern Syria

NATO

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte told European leaders to “keep dreaming” if Europe believes that it can defend itself without the United States. Rutte claims that European countries would have to increase defence spending to 10 percent of GDP to meet that demand.

North Korea

North Korea fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea. South Korea condemns the missile firing. The missiles flew about 350 kilometres. North Korea is widely expected to hold the ruling party’s first congress in five years early next month, where the North will unveil its major policy lines on defence, diplomacy and the economy. 

Venezuela

Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, said that she has had enough of US demands on Venezuela. The Trump administration has demanded that oil production needs to restart and that Venezuela needs to release political prisoners – at least 104 have been freed so far, with some reports of 266.

Nigeria

A group of officers in Nigeria are facing trial over an alleged coup plot last year. Sixteen officers were arrested last October. At the time, the military denied that a coup plot was being organized, but then later it confirmed those suspicions.
