Iran Ceasefire
Just after two days, President Trump announced that the US will pause Project Freedom, where the US was going to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and escort ships out of the strait. Trump stated that the pause is due to the US seeking to reach a comprehensive deal with Iran and that it is close to accomplishing that.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry says that it is reviewing the US proposal and will convey its response to Pakistan.
Ukraine-Russia War
President Zelensky announced a unilateral ceasefire, which would begin at midnight. Ukraine is now condemning Russia for its ceasefire violation, which sent more than 100 combat drones and three missiles, targeting Ukrainian cities. Putin declared a ceasefire to begin on 8 May for the Victory Day parade.
A senior Ukrainian official told the Kyiv Independent that there is no reason to observe the Russian ceasefire after Russian attacks in the night.
Sudan
The Sudanese government accuses Ethiopia and the UAE of a drone attack on the Khartoum airport. The international airport was hit, as were military installations in the Greater Khartoum area. Both the UAE and Ethiopia deny this.
North Korea
North Korea has dropped its reunification goal from its constitution. Kim Jong-un, for the past few years, has shifted North Korea’s stance on South Korea as a permanent adversary. He has also pledged to expand North Korea’s nuclear arsenal.
Gaza
A report from the World Bank, the EU and the UN estimates that the cost to rebuild Gaza will be upwards of $71 billion. Most of the homes and businesses were destroyed, and over 1.9 million people have been internally displaced.
