Canada

The Canadian federal government announced nearly $900 million CDN in defence innovation spending. This includes investments in new drone technology and a new Bombardier aircraft. The money will be invested through the National Research Council. The federal government will invest in Bombardier to create a defence-related Global 6500 aircraft. There will also be an investment in a Biomedical Countermeasures Initiative, which will strengthen Canada’s vaccine supply chain.

Saudi Arabia-Ukraine

Saudi Arabia is preparing a massive defence deal with Ukraine. It is believed that a Saudi Arabian arms company has signed a deal to buy Ukrainian-made interceptor missiles. The deal could be finalized this week. 

Afghanistan-Pakistan

The conflict between the Afghan Taliban and Pakistan continues. Pakistan has destroyed multiple Taliban border posts and an ammunition depot at Sheheen Base in Patika. 

Iran

Oil prices fell by $30 after President Trump stated that the war could be over very soon. This is in contradiction of statements made by Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, who said that Tuesday will be the most intense day of strikes and that the war will be ended on America’s terms and timeline.

The US is also considering escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz to maintain oil supplies and trade. President Trump urged cargo ships to continue to transit through the Strait of Hormuz by telling them to “show some guts”.

Patriot air defence systems were transferred from South Korea. There were rumours that this may happen to shore up Middle Eastern air defence capability. The South Korean government has expressed its regret that this has happened.

Madagascar

Madagascar’s interim president, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, dissolved the entire government, including dismissing the Prime Minister. No reason for the disillusionment has been given. Two activist movements, Gen Z and Gen Y, have given the government a 72-hour ultimatum for Randrianirina’s resignation.

Niger

The Nigerien army repelled an attack on the Tahoua military drone base. Several assailants are dead, and a few Nigerien soldiers are wounded after unidentified assailants pulled up on motorcycles, and an exchange of fire occurred.
