Iran Ceasefire

The Pakistani government told hotels, inns, suites and other hosting businesses in Rawalpindi to close until further notice. This was due to the upcoming peace talks between the US and Iran. Pakistan also deployed more than 10,000 police in this city for the meeting. A US delegation is on its way.

Iran stated that it would not attend the peace talks scheduled for Tuesday. Iran’s foreign ministry reiterated that the US is not seeking viable peace talks and is asking for maximalist demands. The Iranian government sees the US blockade as an act of aggression

The USS SPURANCE fired on, and then boarded and seized, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman. The cargo ship was attempting to run the blockade. A day earlier, two Iranian gunboats attacked

Ukraine attacked two Russian refineries and other key oil targets overnight into Saturday, just hours after the United States signed another waiver of sanctions on Russian oil. Previously, the US did not renew its waiver on Russian oil.

The US is trying to ease tensions in the oil market amid the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. It should also be noted that when Iran “opened” the strait, it still required all ships to coordinate with the IRGC and take the specified route, so not open.

United States

An Iranian woman has been arrested for allegedly trafficking arms to Sudan. Shamim Mafi, 44, was arrested at Los Angeles airport on Saturday and is accused of “brokering the sale of drones, bombs, bomb fuses, and millions of rounds of ammunition manufactured by Iran and sold to Sudan. This also included the sale of $70 million of drones to Sudan.

Bulgaria

Preliminary results show that former President Rumen Radev has won Bulgaria’s general election with a clear majority, defying pre-election polls that predicted yet another potential coalition government. Radev’s Progressive Bulgaria stands at 44.7% of the vote, with 96% of the ballots officially counted. This would give the party an absolute majority in parliament — the first political force to achieve this on its own since 1997.

UAE-US

The UAE has held talks with the US Treasury Department about securing a financial backstop in case the war in Iran drags on. UAE Central Bank Gov. Khaled Mohamed Balama raised the idea of a currency-swap line with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Treasury and Federal Reserve officials in meetings in Washington last week. The Emiratis emphasized that they had so far avoided the worst economic effects of the conflict but might still need a financial lifeline.

South Korea-India

South Korea and India agree to bolster economic and defence ties. Prime Minister Modi will host the South Korean president as both countries aim to increase bilateral trade to $50 billion a year by 2030.

Afghanistan

UNICEF reports that 23 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian aid. UNICEF also reported that it provided “nutrition services and malnutrition prevention programmes to nearly 10 million mothers and children last year. Around 4 million children also received learning materials through schools and education programmes.”

Nigeria

Türkiye will train 200 Nigerian special forces troops under a new defence deal. The new defence agreement will help target the 17-year-long war that Nigeria has had against terrorism. The deal also included the establishment of a new training centre, and it is unclear whether the deal will include the use or sale of Turkish drones.
