US-Iran
There have been reports that the peace deal between the US and Iran was digitally signed. Negotiations will still continue over the release of frozen Iranian assets, its nuclear programme, the support of the Axis of Resistance and other issues.
Hezbollah claims that Iran pledged that it will not finalize the deal until Israeli forces leave southern Lebanon.
Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref believes that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz should pay Iran for safe passage. “Many passages through the Strait of Hormuz have been free of charge thanks to the hospitality of the Iranian people. But when a guest’s stay becomes prolonged, the guest should pay for their own expenses,” Aref said.
Israeli Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Omer Tischler confirms that an attack on Iran was called off an hour before it was to commence last week. The attack was called off by Netanyahu after Trump told Israel not to escalate the situation with Iran. The attack was to involve the majority of the Israeli Air Force and would have targeted hundreds of targets.
United States
Shortly after takeoff, a B-52 bomber flying out of Edwards Air Force Base crashed, killing the crew of eight. Out of the fleet of 76 B-52s, four are used for testing – it was one of the test planes that crashed on Monday. Of those on board, two were Boeing employees.
United Kingdom
The BBC revealed that a Ukrainian, recruited by Russia, was behind an arson attack that targeted Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Roman Lavrynovych was convicted of conspiring to commit arson. Lavrynovych was directed by an anonymous handler with the initials EL. EL offered the reward of money and Russian citizenship for a successful arson attack. The BBC believes his name is Evgeny Lyukshin, 23, and that he is the son of a senior official.
Russia-Ukraine War
Ukrainian drone strikes hit a major oil refinery in Moscow and an oil depot that supplies gas stations across the southern Krasnodar region. The oil refinery supplies most of Moscow’s gas. This will continue to put pressure on the Russian economy and its people.
President Trump and President Zelensky had a “very good” meeting. After the meeting, Trump stated that Putin should make a peace deal with Ukraine.
Australia
The United States is preparing to create a permanent war-ready weapons stockpile for its Marine Corps in Australia. The first stockpile in the Asia-Pacific theatre is due to open in the Philippines later this year. The US Marine Corps began prepositioning weapons in Norway during the Cold War. Australia does not permit foreign military bases on its soil, and so the stockpile will be stationed at the Australian military base at Bandiana in rural Victoria.
