Iran Ceasefire
Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshall Munir, is in Tehran attempting to reignite peace talks between Iran and the US. There were rumours that peace talks might take place this weekend, but with Munir in Tehran, it is doubtful they will.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force General Dan Caine stated that the US has turned back 13 vessels attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz since the US blockade began. The US Navy stated that the blockade will be widened to include cargoes deemed contraband and any vessels suspected of trying to reach Iranian territory. Those ships will be subject to boarding and inspection.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that China has assured the White House that it won’t send weapons to Iran.
The White House will not renew the Russian oil sanctions waiver. At the onset of the conflict, the US waived the oil sanctions for ships already at sea to ease pressure on the global oil market.
Lebanon
Syrian authorities have seized over 6,000 military-grade detonators, weapons and ammunition that were about to be smuggled into Lebanon. Syrian internal security forces in Homs reported discovering a tunnel linking Syrian and Lebanese territory in the border town of Housh al-Sayyed Ali. There was no report on who dug the tunnel. Earlier this month, the Syrian defence ministry announced that they found tunnels for drugs and weapons in this region and that Hezbollah operated them.
Pentagon-Industrial Base
Senior Pentagon officials have held talks about producing weapons and other military supplies with the leaders of several automotive companies, including General Motors and Ford. The Pentagon is worried about its weapons stockpile and is identifying ways it can rapidly increase production of weapons systems.
Ukraine
Russian troops in the Pokrovsk area are facing a supply shortage after Ukrainian partisans destroyed operational command and secure data transmission channels for the headquarters of the Central Military District. The Gornyi Shchit district is critical for resupply in that area and the telecommunication centre, which was targeted, directly coordinated resupply.
China
Chinese GDP rose by 5% in the first quarter of the year, compared to a year earlier, according to official data. Economists had expected the figure to come in at around 4.8%. Despite disruptions in oil supplies and prices, China managed to grow its manufacturing sector, particularly the automotive sector. Next quarter’s growth is predicted to be lower as the effects of the war in Iran are increasingly felt.
