Iran Ceasefire
After both the US and Iran accused each other of violating the ceasefire, US and Iranian negotiators came up with a deal to extend the ceasefire for another 60 days. The deal is hanging in the balance with President Trump’s approval. Under the deal, Iran would remove all sea mines within 30 days, and the US would lift the blockade on Iranian ports if commercial traffic resumed normally and without Iranian tolls.
President Trump urged Middle Eastern countries to sign onto the Abraham Accords and normalize relations with Israel.
Romania
NATO condemns Russian “recklessness” after a Russian drone hit a Romanian residential block, injuring two. Romania will hold an emergency meeting with NATO. Romania’s defence ministry said that two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled but had only four minutes to intercept, from the moment the drone was detected to the moment of impact.
Lebanon
IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. General Eyal Zamir, stated that IDF troops are advancing in southern Lebanon.
China
China is building a “sprawling web of launch pads, bunkers and communications nodes near the isolated nuclear silos”. It is believed to help house China’s growing number of mobile missile launchers and air defence batteries. Other facilities are also being constructed that can potentially be used for satellite communications and command and control. China has a “no first-use” policy, but it could use the nuclear card to apply pressure on Taiwan.
Russia-Taliban
Russia and the Afghan Taliban have signed a military cooperation agreement. The terms of the agreement have not been made public. Military cooperation bilateral agreements do generally involve weapon sales, manufacturing licences and joint research projects. Moscow does use military cooperation agreements to formalize relations with other countries. However, with the war in Ukraine and a shortage of Russian recruits, will the Taliban send fighters to assist?
UN Peacekeeping
President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peacekeeping missions on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers. Zardari highlighted that one of the oldest UN peacekeeping missions, the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan, has been hosted by Pakistan (and, of course, India). Since 1960, over 235,000 Pakistanis have served in UN peacekeeping missions, and 180 have been killed.

Québec-based Davie and UK-based Kraken Technology Group (Kraken) announced their collaboration for Davie Shipyard to produce advanced uncrewed surface vessels and next-generation autonomous maritime systems.
