Iran Ceasefire

Israel conducted airstrikes on the Lebanese city of Tyre, despite Iran’s warning to halt attacks and President Trump’s previous comments on how the two countries need to back down.

Pakistani and Lebanese military chiefs met and agreed to boost cooperation. Mediation in the Middle East continues, but it is an interesting angle for Pakistan to take by meeting with Lebanese military officials. Lebanon has not been able to disarm Hezbollah, and the country has been taken hostage by the group’s actions. The Pakistani military stated that the two military chiefs spoke of “matters of mutual interest, the evolving regional security environment, defence cooperation and prospects for enhancing bilateral military relations”.

An Apache helicopter went down in the Strait of Hormuz. The two pilots were rescued by a US Navy drone.

The US Navy disabled an Iranian Shadow Fleet tanker that was headed to Iran. The “tanker was previously known as Arihant (IMO 9464156) and was sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control in December 2025 as part of a broader crackdown on Iran’s sanctions-evasion network.”

European 6th Gen Fighter Jet

Airbus and a group of defence companies submitted a position paper on a sixth-generation fighter jet project to ‌the German government. It was reported yesterday that the German government dropped the 6th generation project with France over a dispute as to who would take the lead – Airbus or Dassault Aviation. The German government stated that it had received the position paper but did not comment further. The Future Air Combat System (FCAS) has been years in the making, with discussions and development ongoing. It was generally seen as a model for how Europe may move forward with defence-industrial cooperation.

Afghanistan

The Taliban have extended their recent hijab crackdown in Herat. There were reports from citizens that “dozens of young women were detained on the first day of the operation for wearing coats or appearing in public without face coverings.” Protests in Herat erupted, with at least one person killed and 22 injured.

The leader of the Taliban, Hibatullah Akhundzada, issued a verbal order that smartphones are banned for Taliban members and government employees. This is an extension of the Taliban policy of “smartphone use and the publication of images depicting living beings.”

Kenya

Protests over the US Ebola centre in Kenya continue, with the police firing tear gas at the protest. Construction for an Ebola centre for US citizens is taking place at the central town of Nanyuki. There is public concern about cross-border infection risks and the government’s lack of transparency.
